PM | Cheap, versatile palm oil is everywhere, and has transformed the economies of Malaysia and Indonesia, but is it worth it?

With palm oil, “the reality is that the Western part of the world is [a small share] of palm oil consumption, and the rest of the world doesn’t give a s**t”, says Neil Blomquist, managing director of Colorado, US-based Natural Habitats, which produces palm oil in Ecuador and Sierra Leone to the highest level of sustainability certification. “So there’s not much incentive to change.”
